Inter-University
Africa Debates

WHAT WE DO

A national debate championship bringing together leading UK universities to engage with the ideas, aspirations, and policy priorities shaping Africa’s future.

WHY IT MATTERS

Amplifies

African voices in the Diaspora and on the continent.

Connects

universities and policymakers.

Transforms

informed youth perspectives into policy.

HOW IT STARTED

The debates were first launched at LSE in March 2024 with the participation and support of HE John Mahama, President of Ghana, alongside African MSc students from LSE and King’s College London.

Since then, the platform has evolved into a growing intellectual and policy-facing initiative engaging students from top UK universities including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial, King’s College London, and others.

Subject to confirmation, the finals will be anchored around the presence of President John Mahama, with the presentation of the inaugural named prize.

Leadership & Africa’s Future

The Championships move beyond simply capturing youth perspectives toward actively interrogating and translating these insights into policy-facing dialogue in front of institutional leaders and policymakers, moving from insight to engagement, and from data to voice.
